Settlement, a photo book by David Bernabo

In late summer, I traveled to Iceland and Sweden to explore the countryside and the unconscious natural environment. Moss, hardened molten earth, waning glaciers, and falling waters. Given time constraints, the automobile, with its gasoline and byproducts, was the only practical mode of transportation. This contrast, the quest for the natural made possible by unnatural creations, is a theme that runs through my first photo book, Settlement.

Many of the photographs are devoid of a human presence, but others relay human engagement with nature--artifacts placed in the wild, attempts to caution others, and natural items made more palatable. Elsewhere, nature is.

This is the 14th release on Ongoing Box. 50 pages, printed on beautiful, heavy Mohawk Superfine Uncoated paper. 7 inches X 7 inches. $35.
